Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose by 5.2% year-on-year to $1,280.3 in September 2024, the largest increase since March 2021, following a 4.9% increase in August. Gains were reported in 11 of the 20 sectors, led by information and cultural industries, educational services, and health care and social assistance. Earnings declined in 9 sectors, including utilities (-2.3%), forestry, logging and support (-0.4%), and construction (-0.1%).

Canada Weekly Earnings Growth Quickens to 5-Month High
Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose by 4.5% year-on-year to $1,267.5 in July 2024, the most in five months, following an upwardly revised 4.2% growth in June, with 17 of the 20 sectors reporting gains. The largest increases were recorded in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+9.8% to $2,472); information and cultural industries (+9.4% to $1,828); educational services (+6.5% to $1,271) and health care and social assistance (+5.6% to $1,138). Conversely, earnings decreased in utilities (.2.3% to $2,069); forestry, logging and support (-0.4% to $1,411) and construction (-0.1% to $1,504).
