Cyprus Retail Sales Growth Unchanged at 4.6%
Retail sales in Cyprus rose by 4.6% year-on-year in October 2024, matching the revised figure from the previous month. Sales growth accelerated notably in automotive fuel (8.5% vs. 3.1% in September), clothing and footwear (8.5% vs. 4.6%), and flowers, plants, watches, jewelry, optical goods, and second-hand goods (7.5% vs. 5.8%). In contrast, trade grew at a slower pace in categories like food, beverages, and tobacco in non-specialized stores (2.7% vs. 3.6%), information and communication equipment (9.6% vs. 11.3%), other household equipment (1.5% vs. 5.2%), and pharmaceuticals, orthopedic goods, and cosmetics (4.6% vs. 6.4%). On a year-to-date basis, retail sales increased by 4.1%.

Cyprus Retail Trade Growth Climbs to 13-Month High
Retail sales in Cyprus climbed by 5.7% year-on-year in August 2024 from a two-year low of 1.2% rise in the previous month. This marked the highest growth in retail activity since July 2023, as sales surged for food, beverages or tobacco in non-specialized stores (7.8% vs 1.8% in July) and in specialized stores (7.2% vs 5.3%). Moreover, trade rebounded for information and communication equipment (-3.4% vs 5.6%), other household equipment (1.9% vs -1.2%), clothing and footwear (-2.9% vs 2.1%), and pharmaceuticals, orthopedic goods and cosmetics (19.2% vs -8.8%). Meanwhile, sales continued to decrease for retail sales not in stores (-17% vs -3.9%). On a monthly basis, retail activity tumbled 3.3% in August from a 3.9% gain in the previous month.

Retail sales in Cyprus eased by 1.2% year-on-year in July 2024, from a 3.2% rise in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading in retail trade since July 2022, as sales tumbled for clothing and footwear (-2.9% vs 6.2% in June) and pharmaceuticals, orthopedic goods, cosmetics (-8.8% vs 7.9%). Additionally, sales moderated for food, beverages or tobacco in non-specialised stores (1.8% vs 6%) and in specialised stores (5.3% vs 6.2%). Meanwhile, sales increased for automotive fuel (7.4% vs -4.7%) and flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, optical goods & second-hand goods (5.6% vs 4.4%). On a monthly basis, retail trade slowed by 3.9%, from a 4.1% gain in the prior period.
