It was the 26th consecutive month of failing retail activity but the softest drop in the sequence, as sales declined less for audio and video equipment; hardware, paints & glass; electrical household appliances, etc. in specialized stores (-4.1% vs -9.8% in September) and food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (-8.8% vs -14.4%). Additionally, trade increased sharply for computers, peripheral units & software, telecommunications equipment, etc (17.6% vs -10.4%) and via mail orders or the internet (8.4% vs 4.5%). Meanwhile, sales tumbled for automotive fuel in specialised stores (-0.4% vs 2.7%). On a monthly basis, retail trade advanced by 5.7%, rebounding from a 5.3% loss in the prior period. For the first ten months of the year, the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises decreased by 4% compared with the same period of the previous year.

Retail sales in Estonia dropped by 4.4% year-on-year in September 2024, slipping further from a 3.8% fall in the previous month. It was the 25th consecutive month of declining retail activity and the steepest since June, mainly due to lower sales of computers, peripheral units & software, telecommunications equipment, etc (-10.4% vs 3.1% in August), textiles, clothing, footware and leather goods in specialised stores (-8.7% vs -4.1%), and food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (-14.4% vs -12.9%). Conversely, trade advanced via mail order houses or via Internet (4.5% vs -5.9%) and automotive fuel in specialised stores (2.7% vs -1%). On a monthly basis, retail trade decreased by 5.3%, following a 0.9% drop in the preceding period. For the first nine months of the year, the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises fell by 4% compared with the same period of the previous year.
