Retail sales in the Euro Area declined 0.5% month-over-month in October 2024, reversing a 0.5% rise in September and worse than forecasts of a 0.3% fall. Sales declined mostly for non-food products (-0.9% vs 1.3%) and auto fuel (-0.3% vs -0.6%) while sales of food, drinks and tobacco rebounded (0.1% vs -0.7%). Among the largest economies, retail sales shrank 1.4% in Germany and flattened in France and Spain. Year-on-year, retail sales in the Eurozone increased 1.9%, following an upwardly revised 3% rise in September and slightly above forecasts of 1.7%.

Retail sales in the Eurozone increased 0.5% month-over-month in September 2024, following an upwardly revised 1.1% surge in August, and beatng forecasts of a 0.4% rise. Sales soared 1.1% for non-food products and edged up 0.2% for auto fuel, but declined 0.4% for food, drinks and tobacco. Among the Eurozone's largest economies, retail sales increased 1.2% in Germany and 1% in Italy, but declined 0.5% in France. Year-on-year, retail sales were up 2.8%.
