Sales of non-food sank 2.2% and internet and mail orders were down 2.4% while sales of food edged up 0.1%. Year-on-year, retail sales rose 1%, lower than an upwardly revised 4.2% gain in September and forecasts of 3.2%.

Retail sales in Germany increased 1.2% month-over-month in September 2024, following a downwardly revised 1.2% rise in August, and beating forecasts of a 0.5% drop. Sales in the non-food sector soared 1.7% and sales via internet and mail were up 3.1%, offsetting a 0.8% fall in sales of food. Year-on-year, retail sales increased 3.8%, compared to a 2.2% rise in August.
