This also marked the tenth consecutive period of growth, as sales rose faster for food, beverages & tobacco (4.8% vs 1.5% in September), and automotive fuel declined at a softer pace (-0.1% vs –5%). Meanwhile, trade growth moderated for non-food products (3.3% vs 5.7%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales jumped 1.2%, rebounding from a 1.4% drop in September. Considering January to October, retail trade was 2.8% higher compared to the same period last year.

Hungary Retail Sales Growth at 7-Month Low
Retail sales in Hungary advanced by 1.7% year-on-year in September 2024, easing from a five-month high of 4.1% rise in the previous month. This marked the ninth consecutive period of growth but the softest since February, as sales slowed for food, beverages & tobacco (1.5% vs 7.6% in August), while automotive fuel declined further (-5% vs -1.2%). Meanwhile, trade increased for non-food products (5.7% vs 2.9%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity dropped 1.4%, reversing a 0.8% gain in August. Considering January to September, retail sales were 2.7% higher compared to the same period last year.
