Iceland Current Account Swings to Deficit in Q2
The current account in Iceland posted a deficit of ISK 30.5 billion in the second quarter of 2024, shifting from a surplus of ISK 6.1 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. The goods account shortfall rose to ISK 89.5 billion from ISK 82.6 billion a year earlier, while the services account surplus narrowed to ISK 67.2 billion from ISK 88.9 billion. Additionally, the primary income surplus fell to ISK 5.4 billion from ISK 11.3 billion, while the secondary income gap widened to ISK 13.7 billion from ISK 11.6 billion.

Iceland Current Account Deficit Highest in Over 2 Years
The current account gap in Iceland widened sharply to ISK 40.8 billion in the first quarter of 2024, the highest since the last quarter of 2021, from ISK 14.6 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. The goods account shortfall rose to ISK 55.7 billion from ISK 44.9 billion, while the services account surplus narrowed to ISK 13 billion from ISK 25.7 billion a year ago. Additionally, the primary income surplus fell to ISK 13.4 billion from ISK 16.9 billion a year earlier. Conversely, the secondary income gap narrowed to ISK 11.5 billion from ISK 12.4 billion.
