Ireland Retail Sales Rise for 2nd Month
Retail sales in Ireland advanced by 1.1% month-over-month in December 2024, accelerating from a 0.5% gain in the previous month. This marked the second consecutive month of growth, as sales increased for motor trades (6.3%), clothing, footwear & textiles (2.9%), pharmaceuticals, medical & cosmetic articles (2.1%), hardware, paints & glass (2%), books, newspapers & stationery (1.7%), and non-specialised stores, including supermarkets (0.6%). Meanwhile, declines were seen in sales of fuel (-3%), other goods (-2%), furniture & lighting (-1.2%), and bars (-1.1%). On an annual basis, retail activity rose by 0.8% in December, rebounding from an upwardly revised 1.1% decrease in the preceding period.

Retail sales in Ireland increased by 0.5% month-over-month in November 2024, after a flat reading in the previous month. The growth was driven by higher sales for other goods (3.3%), non-specialized stores, including supermarkets (2.5%), bars (1.4%), electrical goods (1.3%), and motor trades (0.1%). However, declines were observed in sales of books, newspapers & stationery (-3.7%), clothing, footwear & textiles (-1.6%), pharmaceuticals, medical & cosmetic articles (-1.2%), and hardware, paints & glass (-1.2%). On an annual basis, retail trade fell by 1% in November, after a revised 1.2% rise in October.

Ireland Retail Volumes Edge Lower
Retail sales in Ireland eased by 0.1% from the previous month in October of 2024, trimming the 0.5% increase from the previous month. The slight decline was owed to lower sales volumes of electrical goods (-1.4%), motor trades (-0.9%), furniture and lighting (-1.1%), and department stores (-0.4%). In turn, these were offset by higher sales volumes of books, newspapers, and stationery (5.2%), and fuel (1.9%). From the previous year, retail volumes were 0.9% higher.
