Latvia Current Account Narrows
Latvia recorded a current account deficit of €95 million in September of 2024, narrowing from the €134M gap from the corresponding period of the previous year. The lower deficit was owed to a narrower shortfall in the primary income account (€89 million vs €141 million). In turn, muted change took place in the goods deficit (€276 million vs €273 million), the services surplus (€190 million vs €195 million), and the secondary income surplus (€80 million vs €86 million).

Latvia Current Account Switches To Surplus in August
Latvia recorded a current account surplus of EUR 12 million in August 2024 as opposed to a deficit of EUR 243 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. The goods gap narrowed to EUR 316 million from EUR 423 million amid a sharp decline in imports due to the gradual normalization of energy prices for Baltic states. Additionally, the primary income switched to a surplus of EUR 8 million from a deficit of EUR 121 million. Meanwhile, the services and secondary income surpluses remained largely unchanged at EUR 235 million and EUR 86 million, respectively.
