Lithuania Trade Deficit Widens in October
Lithuania's trade deficit widened to EUR 0.462 billion in October 2024 from EUR 0.387 in the same month last year, as exports fell more than imports. Exports tumbled 7.7% year-on-year to EUR 3.241 billion, influenced by the decrease in exports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (46%), ground vehicles (16.3%). At the same time, imports dropped 5.1% to EUR 3.702 billion, primarily due to decreased imports of mineral fuels, mineral oils, and products of their distillation (27.4% and ground vehicles (15.6%). Considering the first ten months of the year, the country's trade shortfall narrowed to EUR 3.5378 billion from EUR 4.214 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Lithuania’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 0.176 billion in September 2024 from EUR 0.262 in the same month last year, as imports fell much faster than exports. Imports tumbled 7.6% year-on-year to EUR 3.426 billion, weighed by a decrease in imports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (-33.6%), ground vehicles (-9.3%), and iron and steel (-23.2%). At the same time, exports dropped 5.7% to EUR 3.250 billion, primarily due to lower sales for mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (-20.7%), ground vehicles (-22.7%), and cereals (-13.6%). Considering the first nine months of the year, the country’s trade shortfall narrowed to EUR 3.082 billion from EUR 3.827 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
