Industrial production in Malaysia grew by 4.6% year-on-year in December 2024 from 3.6% in the previous month. This marked the strongest expansion in industrial activity since July, as output increased at a faster pace for manufacturing (4.6% vs 3.6% in November), supported by double-digit growth in manufacture of computers, electronics and optical products (10.1%) and manufacture of rubber products (11.9%). In addition, output rebounded for mining and quarrying (0.4% vs -0.8%), mainly due to increase in natural gas (5.5%). Meanwhile, production eased for electricity (3.5% vs 3.9%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production fell 0.5% in December, reversing from a 0.5% gain in the previous month.

Industrial production in Malaysia expanded by 3.6% year-on-year in November 2024, accelerating from a downwardly revised 2.0% increase in the previous month and exceeding market forecasts of a 2.6% rise. This marked the eleventh consecutive month of expansion and the fastest pace since August, boosted by faster growth in electricity activities (3.9% vs 1.9% in October) and manufacturing (4.6% vs 3.3%), amid smaller declines in mining and quarrying (-0.8% vs -2.8%), due to a reduction in crude oil & condensate (-3.8%vs -7.5%). For the first eleven months of 2024, industrial production grew by 3.7% year-on-year, driven by all sectors. On a seasonally adjusted basis, industrial activity rose by 0.5% in November, following a 1.7% increase in the previous month.
