Malaysia Sales and Services Tax - SST
On September 1st 2018, the Sales and Services Tax (SST) was reintroduced to replace the unpopular Goods and Services Tax (GST). Under the new SST, goods are taxed between 5 to 10 percent and services at 6 percent. The previous GST regime introduced on April 1st 2015 covered a broader range of items and services at a 6 percent rate. In Malaysia, the sales tax rate is a tax charged to consumers based on the purchase price of certain goods and services. The benchmark we use for the sales tax rate refers to the highest rate. Revenues from the Sales Tax Rate are an important source of income for the government of Malaysia.
