Retail sales in Poland rose by 1.9% year-on-year in December 2024, slowing from a 3.1% growth in the previous month and below market forecasts of a 3.8% rise. Sales growth slowed for motor vehicles, motorcycles and their parts (25.1% vs 28.1% in November), solid, liquid gaseous fuels (3.2% vs 4.1%), and pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, orthopedic equipment (1.7% vs 7.2%). Additionally, decreases were observed in sales for food, beverages and tobacco products (-4.3% vs -0.2%), textiles, clothing, footwear (-12.2% vs -14.7%), and furniture, radio, TV and household appliances (-4% vs -2.3%). On the other hand, sales rebounded for newspapers, books, and other items in specialized stores (4.2% vs -1.6%) and continued to rise for other goods (14.9% vs 14.8%). On a monthly basis, retail trade surged by 9.9% in December, recovering from a 1.2% fall in November.
