Slovakia Construction Output Downturn Eases
Slovakia’s construction output dropped by 4.4% year-on-year in October 2024, marking the sixth consecutive month of decline, although easing from a 17.5% plunge in the previous month. Output for domestic production (-5.8% vs -15.2% in September) fell at a slower pace, due to smaller decreases seen from new construction (-6.6% vs -15.5%), repairs & maintenance (-5.9% vs -12.8%), buildings (-2.4% vs -13.1%), and engineering construction (-11.5% vs -18.6%). At the same time, non-domestic production sharply rebounded (7.4% vs -33%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output was 7.8% lower.

Slovakia Construction Output Slumps to Nearly 4-Year Low
Slovakia’s construction output slumped 17.5% year-on-year in September 2024, following an 11.5% decline in the previous month. This marked the fifth consecutive month of falling construction activity and at the sharpest rate since October 2020. Both domestic (-15.2% vs -10.9% in August) and non-domestic production (-33% vs -16.3%) decreased by double digits. All domestic components dropped, namely new construction (-15.5% vs -14.6%), repairs & maintenance (-12.8% vs -5.2%), buildings (-13.1% vs -4.7%), and engineering construction (-18.6% vs -21%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output was 3.9% lower.
