Household spending in Sweden fell by 0.3% month-over-month in October 2024, matching the pace of decline in September and marking the second consecutive drop in household consumption. Spending declined further in transport, retail sales, and motor vehicle services (-3.2% vs -0.1% in September), and a marginal decrease seen in recreation and cultural goods and services (-0.1% vs 0.1%). At the same time, consumption growth slowed for clothing and footwear (0.6% vs 0.8%) and for restaurants, cafes, hotels, and other accommodation services (1.2% vs 1.6%). Meanwhile, spending rebounded for furniture, furnishings, household equipment, and consumables (5% vs -0.6%). On a yearly basis, household spending fell by 1.1%, following a 0.1% increase in the prior period.

Household spending in Sweden dropped by 0.3% month-over-month in September 2024, reversing from an upwardly revised 0.9% growth in the previous period and marking the first decline in household spending since June. Spending decreased for restaurants, cafes, hotels, and other accommodation services (-1.3% vs 0.3% in August), furniture, furnishings, household equipment, and consumables (-1.6% vs -0.3%), and other goods and services (-1.9% vs -0.5%). Meanwhile, spending increased for food and beverages (0.6% vs 0.1%), post and telecommunications (0.4% vs 1.1%), and clothing and footwear (1.5% vs -1.8%), while spending on housing, electricity, gas, and heating remained flat (vs -0.8%).
