Sweden GDP Shrinks for 2nd Month
The Swedish economy contracted 0.4% month-over-month in October 2024, following a downwardly revised 1.5% fall in September. “Economic activity declined in October, held back by weak figures for household consumption expenditure and exports concerning goods, with the latter mirroring weak figures in manufacturing. Growth in construction and general government production counteracted the contraction,” says Mattias Kain Wyatt, economist at Statistics Sweden.

Swedish Monthly GDP Shrinks 0.4% in September
The Swedish economy contracted by 0.4% month-over-month in September 2024, reversing from a downwardly revised 0.8% growth in the previous month, which had marked the fastest expansion since July 2023. For the third quarter as a whole, GDP edged down by 0.1% compared to the preceding quarter. “Sweden’s gross domestic product decreased in September, and together with weak performance in July, this contributed to negative growth for the third quarter overall compared with the previous quarter,” said Melker Pettersson Loberg, an economist at Statistics Sweden. Year-on-year, Sweden's GDP inched up by 0.1% in September.
