Retail sales in Switzerland increased 1.3% year-on-year in January 2025 from a downwardly revised 2.5% rise in the previous month, softer than market expectations of a 1.6% gain. This marked the weakest growth in retail trade activity since last June when the retail sales fell 3%, as sales moderated for both food, beverages & tobacco (0.8% vs 2.4% in December), and non-food products (1.6% vs 2.7%). Meanwhile, sales in service stations continued to fall (-1.6% vs -3.2%).
