This marked the strongest retail trade activity since August, as sales accelerated for food, beverages and tobacco (2.7% vs 1% in November) and non-food products (3.2% vs 1.3%). Meanwhile, sales slipped for service stations (-3.1% vs 1.6%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade rose 0.6% in December, rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.04% fall in the preceding month.

Retail sales in Switzerland rose 0.8 percent year-on-year in November 2024, missing market expectations of 1.2 percent rise and further slowing from an upwardly revised 1.5 percent gain. This marked the lowest reading since June, as sales eased significantly for non-food products (0.1 percent vs 3.2 percent in October) and service stations (2.6 percent vs 2.2 percent). On the other hand, sales accelerated for food, beverages and tobacco (1 percent vs 0.5 percent).
