Imports to Taiwan increased to USD 37.5 billion in December 2024 from USD 28.7 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. This marked the highest reading since August 2022, primarily driven by increased imports for information, communication and audio-video products (71.1%), parts of electronic products (56.6%), machinery (32.6%), and chemicals (13.8%). Meanwhile, imports fell for mineral products (-1.5%), particularly petroleum. Among main suppliers, purchases went up the most from South Korea (81%), followed by ASEAN countries (38.1%), Mainland China & Hong Kong (31.1%), Europe (28.9%), and Japan (27.5%). However, purchases declined from the USA (-5.8%) and Middle East (-1.3%).
