The industry confidence indicator in the Euro Area increased to -11.4 in February 2025 from a downwardly revised -12.7 in January, better than forecasts of -12. Pessimist among industrials eased as production expectations, assessments of the current level of order books, and the stocks of finished products improved.

Eurozone Industrial Pessimism Eases
The industry confidence indicator in the Euro Area improved to -12.9 in January of 2025 from -14.1 in the previous month, better than market expectations of -13.8. The improvement was carried by a rebound in production expectations (0.6 vs -2.1 in December 2024), despite the greater extent of pessimism in order book levels (-28.9 vs -27.5). In the meantime, pessimism over employment expectations also softened (-6.3 vs -7), as firms see a slightly lower concern for uncertainty (36.2 vs 37.8). In the meantime, selling price expectations soared (8.7 vs 7.5), reigniting concerns of inflation.

Euro Area Industrial Sentiment Worsens Sharply
The industry confidence indicator in the Euro Area worsened to -14.1 in December 2024, the lowest reading since July 2020, from -11.4 in November and compared to forecasts of -11.7. Production expectations deteriorated (-2.4 vs 1.6), alongside order books (-27.3 vs -25.5) and employment prospects (-7.2 vs -5.7). Also, selling price expectations increased (7.6 vs 7.1) and uncertainty also went up (37.7 vs 35.2).
