Kazakhstan’s current account recorded a surplus of USD 0.33 billion in the third quarter of 2024, shifting from a deficit of USD 1.65 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year, preliminary estimates showed. The shortfall declined significantly for primary income (USD 5.34 billion vs USD 6.16 billion in Q3 2023), services (USD 0.34 billion vs USD 0.44 billion), and slightly narrowed for secondary income (USD 0.19 billion vs USD 0.25 billion). Additionally, the trade surplus increased to USD 6.2 billion from USD 5.2 billion a year earlier.

Kazakhstan Current Account Gap Narrows Sharply in Q2
Kazakhstan's current account deficit narrowed sharply to USD 0.72 billion in the second quarter of 2024, from USD 3.35 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year, preliminary estimates showed. The shortfall declined significantly for primary income (USD 5.4 billion vs USD 6.79 billion in Q2 2023), and slightly narrowed for secondary income (USD 0.21 billion vs USD 0.32 billion) and services (USD 0.61 billion vs USD 0.63 billion). Moreover, the trade surplus increased to USD 5.49 billion from USD 4.38 billion a year earlier.
