North Macedonia’s trade deficit widened to $306.6 million in October 2024 from $291.5 million in the same month last year, as imports rose more than exports. Exports grew 3% year-on-year to $767.8 million, while imports increased 3.5% to $1,074.3 million. Considering January-October 2024, exports dropped 4.9% from a year earlier to $7,138.1 million, mainly due to lower sales for mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (-20.4%) and chemicals and related products, n.e.s. (-18.1%). Meanwhile, imports rose 0.2% to $9,990 million, primarily driven by increased purchases of beverages and tobacco (16.5%), animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (11.9%), and food and live animals (10.4%).

North Macedonia Trade Deficit at 19-Month Low
North Macedonia’s trade deficit shrank to $213.7 million in September 2024 from $224.9 million in the respective month of the previous year, marking the lowest deficit since February 2023, as exports fell 5.6% to $745 million and imports fell 5.4% to $959 million. During the period January-September 2024, exports fell 5.7% year-on-year to $6.37 billion, driven by lower sales of mineral fuels & lubricants (-24.9%), chemical products (-19%) and manufactured goods (-4.5%). Meanwhile, imports fell 0.2% to 8.92 billion, led by less purchases of crude materials exc. fuels (-14.4%) and mineral fuels & lubricants (-13.5%).
