Net borrowing of mortgage debt by individuals in the United Kingdom fell by £0.3 billion to £2.54 billion in September 2024, below market expectations of £2.8 billion, following three consecutive monthly increases. The annual growth rate for net mortgage lending rose to 0.9% in September from 0.7% in August, continuing the upward trend observed since April 2024. Gross lending decreased to £19.3 billion in September, from £19.7 billion in August. Similarly, repayments fell by £0.6 billion over the same period, to £17.6 billion.
