Moreover, output decreased for manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco (-0.5%), wood and wood products and printing (-2.3%), basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (-2.5%), and electrical equipment (-6.3%). Meanwhile, output increased for manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (1.8%), coke and refined petroleum products (1.6%), and rubber and plastic products and non-metallic mineral products (1.1%). Manufacturing production in the UK rose 1.1% month-over-month in August 2024, rebounding from an upwardly revised 1.2% drop in the previous month, and easily surpassing market estimates of 0.2% gain. Among the sub-sectors, 9 out of 13 saw increases, with the largest positive contribution coming from the manufacture of transport equipment (2.1%) and manufacture of basic metals and metal products (2.3%). Meanwhile, output fell for textiles, wearing apparel and lether products (-0.5%), chemicals and chemical products (-0.5%), wood and paper products and printing (-0.4%), and other manufacturing and repair (-0.7%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing production dropped 0.3% in August, easing from an upwardly revised 2% decline in the previous month, and below market forecasts of 0.4% fall.
