United Kingdom Manufacturing Production MoM

Manufacturing production in the UK fell 0.6% month-over-month in October 2024, defying market forecasts of a 0.2% rise, but easing from a 1% drop in the previous month. Of the 13 sub-sectors, 7 recorded declines, with the largest negative impact coming from basic pharmaceutical products (-2.6%). Other notable decreases were observed in chemicals and chemical products (-3.7%), coke and refined petroleum products (-2.9%), and machinery and equipment n.e.c (-2.8%). On the other hand, production rose mainly for food, beverages and tobacco (0.5%), computer, electronic and optical products (1.8%), and other manufacturing and repair (1.2%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing output showed no increase in October, following a 0.7% fall in September.

Among the sub-sectors, 9 out of 13 posted decreases, with the largest negative contribution coming from the manufacture of basic metals and metal products (-2.7%). Moreover, output decreased for manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco (-0.5%), wood and wood products and printing (-2.3%), basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (-2.5%), and electrical equipment (-6.3%). Meanwhile, output increased for manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (1.8%), coke and refined petroleum products (1.6%), and rubber and plastic products and non-metallic mineral products (1.1%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing production fell 0.7% in September from a 0.3% decline in the previous month, defying market expectations of 0.1% rise.

Manufacturing production in the UK rose 1.1% month-over-month in August 2024, rebounding from an upwardly revised 1.2% drop in the previous month, and easily surpassing market estimates of 0.2% gain. Among the sub-sectors, 9 out of 13 saw increases, with the largest positive contribution coming from the manufacture of transport equipment (2.1%) and manufacture of basic metals and metal products (2.3%). Meanwhile, output fell for textiles, wearing apparel and lether products (-0.5%), chemicals and chemical products (-0.5%), wood and paper products and printing (-0.4%), and other manufacturing and repair (-0.7%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing production dropped 0.3% in August, easing from an upwardly revised 2% decline in the previous month, and below market forecasts of 0.4% fall.
