The University of Michigan consumer sentiment for the US was confirmed at 74 in December 2024, the highest level since April, compared to 71.8 in November. The expectations gauge was revised sharply higher to 73.3 from a preliminary of 71.6 but the current conditions index was revised lower to 75.1 from 77.7. "Buying conditions exhibited a particularly strong 32% improvement, primarily due to a surge in consumers expecting future price increases for large purchases. Broadly speaking, consumers believe that the economy has improved considerably as inflation has slowed, but they do not feel that they are thriving", Surveys of Consumers Director Joanne Hsu said.
