The number of job openings increased in professional and business services (+273,000), finance and insurance (+105,000), and private educational services (+38,000) but decreased in information (-89,000). Regarding regional distribution, job openings rose in the South (+194,000), the Northeast (+49,000) and in the West (+32,000), but decreased in the Midwest (-16,000). Meanwhile, the number of hires and total separations changed little at 5.3 million and 5.1 million, respectively.
