US utilities withdrew 258 billion cubic feet of natural gas from storage, reducing total stockpiles to 3,115 bcf in the week ending January 10, mostly in line with market expectations. This marked the nineth consecutive draw in inventories, following the expected start to the withdrawal season. The most significant drops in storage occurred in the South Central (-93 bcf), followed by the Midwest (-73 bcf) and the East (-68 bcf). This narrowed the surplus over the five-year average to 2.5% and pushed stocks 3.4% below last year’s levels.

US Natural Gas Stocks Fall for 8th Week
U.S. utilities withdrew 40 billion cubic feet of natural gas from storage, reducing total stockpiles to 3,373 bcf in the week ending January 3rd, below market expectations of a 51 bcf decrease. This marked the eighth consecutive draw in inventories, following the expected start to the withdrawal season. The most significant drops in storage occurred in the Midwest (-33 bcf) and the East (-8 bcf), corresponding with colder regions of the country. This narrowed the surplus over the five-year average to 6.5% and pushed stocks 0.1% below last year’s levels.
