Following the recent accident involving a Swiftair Boeing 737-400 in Vilnius, Lithuania, the ENCASIA Mutual Support System (EMSS) was activated to provide additional investigative assistance to the Lithuania’s Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Division (TAIID).
The TAIID requested assistance from another European Safety Investigation Authorities, and the German Safety Investigation Authority Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung (BFU) sent four investigators to assist the TAIID in addition to the work of the Annex 13 states already involved, which includes Lithuania, Spain and the United States.
The EMSS is designed to facilitate mutual support between European Safety Investigation Authorities, ensuring that resources and expertise are shared when needed, particularly in complex or resource-intensive investigations. This cooperation demonstrates the value of collaboration in maintaining high standards of aviation safety investigations in Europe.
We extend our gratitude to all parties involved in this investigation and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this accident.
