I purchased a portable espresso maker on Cyber Monday from Currys, tempted by their advertised 40% cashback through Quidco and 4 months of Apple TV+. Unfortunately, this turned into one of the most frustrating shopping experiences I’ve ever had. Firstly, the transaction didn’t log correctly on Quidco, and when I tried to manually raise the claim, the promised 40% cashback wasn’t even listed as an option. To this day, I have not received any cashback. Secondly, when I checked my order, I noticed Currys had processed two items instead of one even though I had only paid for one. Trying to do the right thing, I contacted their support to cancel the duplicate. On Chrome, their online chat didn’t even appear as an option, so I had to switch to Bing. Once I got through, the agent denied that two items were being sent and insisted I was mistaken. Shortly after, I received a notification from Royal Mail stating that one of the items had been sent back to sender. Clearly, this was a result of my effort, but there was no acknowledgment or appreciation—just a frustrating denial from the support team. The Apple TV+ offer has been another nightmare. Despite promises that I’d receive an email within 14 days, then 48-72 hours, and finally 24 hours, nothing arrived. When I asked who would send the email, the support agent said they didn’t know and had no communication with the emails team—unbelievable! Currys, why advertise cashback and Apple TV+ if you’re not going to honour these promises? And why make it so difficult to resolve issues? The lack of transparency, misleading offers, and poor customer service have left me extremely disappointed. Avoid shopping here if you value your time, your money, and your sanity. As any promotions offered there is little to no support available to resolve.

It took six days to deliver and the 2L model we wanted wasn't available for Black Friday(!) so we had to order the more expensive and unnecessary 4L version. Installation straightforward but we had two leaks: (1) A drip from the threaded tap outlet when in use. The machining of the thread on the tap and the aerator/filter that screws on the outlet is poor and had some deposits in the thread. After cleaning and reassembly the drip from around the screw thread was eliminated. (2) The filter sump seals onto the filter unit with an O-ring but this also leaked. We removed the O-ring, cleaned off the grease and fluff and refitted with some fresh food-safe grease. The O-ring isn't as compressed as you might expect so the fluff was enough to break the seal. I hope that replacement filters are supplied with an O-ring otherwise this is a likely failure mode in future. The Qettle QC team should address these issues. In use: The standard tap functions are as you would expect. The filtered water scores a 7 on our dissolved solids tester (the point at which you would replace a "Zero Water" filter) so distinctly average. The boiling water is indeed boiling, but great care is required because it froths and splutters a lot - we take care to get the outlet well into the cup or pot to avoid splashes. Also unexpectedly noisy with a loud thrumming noise as the tap body vibrates when dispensing boiling water. We assume that the tank is well insulated because when switched off overnight for 8 hours the recovery time is around 10 minutes rather than the 20+ minutes you would expect from cold.
