Not Great
I insured my first car with Insurethebox in December of last year. All went well, the person who came to fit the black box was a bit of a roughen but that's not fitted by Insurethebox themselves. I'm sure the company that comes to fit the box sends pictures of your car over to Insurethebox, probably to see if anything could void your insurance if they ever have to pay out. I thought the black box fitter broke something on my car, turns out I was wrong but the complaint I sent to Insurethebox at the time was solved and they gave a perfect response.
My car was vandalized and had a window smashed. Insurethebox charge £70 excess for window replacements which didn't affect my no claims bonus which was a very fair price. This was sorted quickly.
Unfortunately, at the end of March I was involved in a non-fault accident. I clearly stated I wasn't injured but Insurethebox passed my information onto a no-win-no-fee company to encourage me to claim for whiplash. It's funny all insurance companies complain about false whiplash claims but they push their customers to do it for commission! After the accident my car was written off on the side of the road, a wait time of 30-40 minutes to contact the claims team is a tad too much when in such need of help however it was at nearly 10pm. When I got through Insurethebox had my car recovered within around 30 minutes which was brilliant. I was told I would receive a phone call the next morning from them to proceed with my claim. I didn't so I decided to chase them up.
When I called them the next day to proceed with the claim they passed me on to a credit hire company, Enterprise, this was because I didn't have courtesy car cover. I was too young to get a vehicle from Enterprise so they passed me onto Proximo law for a credit hire car which had me on the road very soon after the accident. Insurethebox took a while, around 2-3 weeks to deem my car written off and provide valuation, which was fine with me as I had a nice new credit hire vehicle to drive around in while they did their stuff. It took another week or so to get the money. Their valuation of my car was VERY fair. Even more than I actually paid for the car, even with 4 months and 9000 miles added to the car. I didn't have to try and get more from them as I was very happy with the valuation. They deducted money for dinks and scrapes to the car. I paid no excess as the accident was not my fault, my no claims bonus was also not affected.
A slight problem I had with Insurethebox was when I was buying a new vehicle a few months after mine was written off. I wanted to have the insurance moved to a newer vehicle after the other was written off. I contacted them from the dealership asking if I asked for the insurance to be moved will it be done instantly. They said yes. I proceeded and after paying for my new vehicle they stated a new black box agreement had to be processed by a "manager" and it would take an hour. After two hours of sitting outside the dealership and more follow up calls to Insurethebox they finally insured my new car. They also returned £5 to me as the insurance was cheaper on my new car, a nice sentiment.
Overall, fair but not perfect. I have never really received many bonus miles but then again I don't drive like a saint. I will unfortunately be moving from them as my insurance gets cheaper as I think black boxes are a huge invasion of privacy.
EDIT: I have had to move this review from 3 stars to 2. I was not offered a renewal with InsureTheBox, not that I was too bothered as I was getting fed up. The mileage limits they impose are very restrictive and cost you a FORTUNE if you want to drive move than your policy allows. I'd never use a black box in my car ever again.
