We could not recommend Matt enough.
He has helped us design and obtain approval for our dream home. He was the perfect mix of bringing his own experience and ideas while very open and accommodating to our ideas and wishes.
Through the whole process Matt was always available to us whenever we needed any support and was able to nudge us when appropriate to ensure we kept on track with deadlines. He was also extremely responsive and we were never waiting on him for anything as it was done straight away.
Matt helped take all the stress away from the process and guide us through the planning we have no obtained.

I couldn't recommend Matt from MDT Design highly enough. He is an honest guy who is pleasant to work with. Came out to meet us and turned around our design and plans really quickly. Helped us with the planning permission after a few hiccups and has advised us on structural engineers and builders too for our single storey extension and kitchen design. Thanks Matt! MDT Design have been fantastic from initial concept through to full approval of plans (and every little tweak in between!)
Communication and response times were amazing. Matt and his team have vast experience in dealing with local planning and building control matters and that was evident throughout the process when trying to bottom out even the very minor details.
His contacts and referrals are of an equally high standard and we definitely appreciated the steer.
We would not hesitate to recommend their services and will be using them again.

Having met other architects to quote for extending the rear of our property, Matt stood out as the person who listened to what we wanted and looked at the project holistically. He took into account how our family used the space and our future needs. He understood that this was a significant decision for us and offered comprehensive ideas to how we could achieve this. We are midway through the project and it offers us more than we could have imagined. Matt has supported us through every stage and offered advice where needed. Matt gave us great advice and steered us in the right direction for our new porch. The drawings were submitted without any hitches and planning permission was achieved within the time frame he expected. Very grateful to Matt who made the overall experience easier than expected.

We have been threatened with court action twice by Matt Tate. The first when it was apparent that the design wasn鈥檛 going to work and we tried to resolve it and the second when I left an honest review (this is an amended version). I was a Senior Design Engineer in the Aerospace industry prior to my current role as a Surveyor. I understand the design process and what information should be contained in a drawing. The materials are different but the principles are the same. Unlike Matt Tate I do not believe the courtroom is the place to resolve disagreements and paid in full (拢2000) just to get this man out of our lives. 8 months later and we cannot build his design because it does not satisfy the requirements of building regulations. Please heed the negative reviews, we wish we had. I have never before met such a frustrating and unreasonable man. I cannot convey how stressful this has been.

Timelines to project
-1st Visit 31st July 2019 .. i advised not to buy Bungalow as Main public Sewer Runs directly under the building. But client ignored my advise and instructed i came back to survey
- Survey carried out 9th August 2019.... 9 days after instruction
-1st Design sent to Andrew 29th August 2019 ....21 days after survey
- 1st design meeting at Andrews Bungalow 4th October 2019 .... 37 days after 1st design sent
- 2nd Design sent to Andrew 7th October 2019 .... 4 days after 1st Meeting
- 2nd design Meeting at Andrews bungalow 4th December 2019 ....59 days after 2nd design sent
- 3rd Design sent to Andrew 5th December 2019 .... 1 day after 1st Meeting client instructed to proceed and submit planning application to Winchester City Council and also instructed us to proceed with producing a set of building regulation application plans based on approved design by Andrew.
- Planning Application submitted on 16th December 2019 Ref Number 19/02786/HOU... to view this you can go to Winchester city council planning search page and view the application to see the size of the extension in question here .... tiny single storey side flat roof extension and elevational alterations
- Building regulation plans sent to Andrew 13th December 2019 for his approval prior to submission to Winchester city council building control 10 days after his instruction
- Building control plans submitted on 14th December 2019 ... 1 day after Andrew received them and approved them
- 14th January 2020 building regulation drawings approved subject to 2 conditions ... structural engineers and the house holder submitting an application to Southern Water to build extension over the main public sewer running under his bungalow ... the sewer to which i advised Andrew at start not to buy this bungalow.
- 15th January 2020 this approval was sent to Andrew ...
- 7th February 2020 planning permission was approved and forwarded direct to Andrew
As you can see from these timelines above the majority of the time on this project was with the Andrew actually getting back to me with revisions required which i turned around in 4 days max.
I have provided Andrew with a list of 20 builders we have used in the past 20 years and non of them want to work for this man for what ever reason !! ... And some how now 11 months on from getting all approval necessary this is now aimed back at me....
this review from Andrew has been revised at least 10 times (i have emails from Trust Pilot to prove this) and yes i have asked him to revise it due to libel comments he has made about me.
I hope people reading this will make up there own mind. and see i have done exactly what i was asked to do and gain approvals i was required to gain from Winchester city council in a timely manner.... what i cant do is make a builder want to work for Andrew.....

Hi Andy .. we actually got you planning permission and we obtained you building regulations approval .. all copies have been sent to you and we can provide evidence to anyone reading this .. we can also put any one in touch With the structural engineer dealing with this project which we completed approx 1 year ago .. when you came to me you advised me the drain was there and that you were going to deal direct with southern water regarding this issue as your bungalow was already built over the sewer .. on my instil visit I actually advised you not to buy it .. ... ..but you did. The drains do work as I have shown them and I can get 6 companies to confirm that as 80% is existing and being used now 鈥� what you have shown on your attached plan too doesn鈥檛 work !! as you seemed to have missed off completely the new kitchen drainage which I assume you want !! or is that my fault too ? the system you have drawn will clearly cost more as it 100% new and not needed, unless you tell me you have money to waste doing so.
You don鈥檛 have to have the roof faulted if you don鈥檛 want too 鈥� not a problem to omit but again due to your height you made it VERY clear to me from the start you didn鈥檛 want anything lower than the existing ceilings and wanted the feeling of height and light in the new area.
If you actually read the letters we sent you we too had sent it to a consulting engineer to design the steel sizes and this was never included in our fees and was always going to be extra and you were free to go to whoever you or your builder wished .. whatever you do needed a steel beam and again you made it clear it was not to come under the existing ceiling heights.
As you have the building regs approval docs and planning approval docs and as per my last email I will not be held to ransom over this for changes you want me to do once you have all these approvals 鈥� I will do the changes but you pay me first.

From reading your one and only other Trust Pilot review its clear you jump the gun and clearly like to blame other people prior looking at the whole picture
In my 30 years in doing this you have to be the most unfortunate person i have ever dealt with as you like to blame others
I also assume from who you left the review for you are actually trying to build this yourself ... Your not a builder Andy
Matt did a great job designing our two story rear extension. We had very many rounds of revisions, back-and-forth with planning and building control, and a few last minute (and urgent!) changes of heart. But, Matt managed it all very well and kept the show on the road. As we have begun living in the space, we are noticing lots of touches and thoughtfulness in the design. One of best decisions in the project was trusting in Matt's advice.

We began working with Matt in July 2022, after meeting with several other architectural companies and choosing MDT to work with. Matt has offered us a great service, and has communicated with us in a timely manner throughout the design phases. At the beginning he provided us with a full breakdown of the fees involved, and he has been willing to share his years of knowlegde when we have asked questions. We have just recieved planning permission and are now in a position to start building. Thank you Matt for all your help

Matt has been brilliant in helping us work out what we wanted from our rear extension. He suggested a layout we wouldn鈥檛 have thought of ourselves and was quick and efficient at getting drawings back to us. Matt has been really patient and quick to respond to our (many!) questions and has handled all admin for our permitted development, making the process stress free. Would definitely recommend to anyone and already have.
