My favourite bar staff Francis

I’ve been coming to this pub for a couple of years and never have I had such a good relationship with the bar staff. Especially Francis, she’s never failed to make me and my family feel welcome, also a friendly, approachable face while at work, no matter the how busy the bar will be.

Turned away

I went to the pub at bank on 12 noon seeking lunch for one in the bar only to be told the entire place was booked out for Xmas lunches ! Bitterly disappointing as have have heard good thinks about the food !
If the place was booked out I feel it should have been advertised not lots of signs outside inviting you in for lunch

Great visit

Lovely staff, lovely location/pub and the food is absolutely fantastic! Would highly recommend, make sure to book because it was so busy when I went, however I can see why it is always busy!

Lovely Anniversary Meal

Booked a table for the Italian Special evening, the staff were most welcoming from the moment we walked through the door, could not be more helpful in adapting some menu choices to be Gluten Free.
The Mushroom Risotto was amazing, so tasty and flavoursome.
We have been recommended to try their Sunday Lunch which we will be doing very soon

Excellent dining experience

Firstly we’re definitely going back. Great food, atmosphere and value. Excellent, professional customer service, the whole team from entering the building couldn’t do enough to make this a great dining experience. One of our party has an allergy, but no problem - out came the allergy book and the full menu explained. The food was excellent, everyone enjoyed all 3 courses, (the steak and ale pie was something else  17. a proper pie and not a stew with a lid on) ! Looking forward to the next visit.

Great Place to Eat and/or Drink

Great food and first-class service (and banter) from Simon. Booking is strongly recommended as this place's reputation is growing, especially for Sunday lunch.

The place has been extended and refurbished but very tastefully. None of your 'plastic pub' decor here (like some large pub chains). I love is that they've kept the original Cock Hotel vibe and feel, so its heritage is still there, along with details about its history displayed. So you can drink, eat and learn!

We had a party of 8, plus two dogs, so were advised during booking whether we would mind being seated in the bar, which was absolutely fine. It had a lovely atmosphere, too, so felt very comfortable. Plenty of room, so didn't feel claustrophobic and on top of each other, unlike some other eateries.

Drink selection was great, with a good selection of wines and beers on offer (incidentally, Slumbering Monk is a lovely Joules brew, best described as a cross between a stout and dark porter).

The food was delicious and although not the cheapest carvery around (though it does not proclaim to be), this was well-worth it - very tasty indeed.
Very dog-friendly, and really friendly staff. Desserts are pretty good too.

My only criticism is that service became a little slow toward the end - drinks and desserts - yet staff seemed to be aplenty, with some standing round chatting, so I assume a likely miscommunication, perhaps. We're only human, I guess. That said, none of us were in any rush so it didn't spoil the experience. Indeed, I'm looking forward to returning.

Quite simply the best Sunday Lunch!

I cannot rate the Sunday Lunch my husband and I had highly enough! From the moment we walked through the door, every single member of staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
The selection of ales was wonderful, tempting my usually lager loving hubby to try the Green Monkey, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
We were lucky enough that aside from the usual offering of beef, pork or turkey, lamb was also on the menu as a special. With a lot of debating, and not a little bartering, I chose the lamb and hubby went for both beef and pork, for a very reasonable upgrade of just £1.50 - a very wise decision! This way we both got try all 3 meats and boy, were we glad we did!!
Each different meat was cooked to absolute perfection and each one beyond delicious.
Served with a wonderful selection of lovely, fresh veggies, plenty of very tasty gravy and a masterpiece of a Yorkshire pudding, this was quite simply one of the best Sunday lunches we've ever had!
Can't wait to come back!

Simon and Louise are an incredible 17/h2>

Simon and Louise are an incredible partnership that have taken the Cock hotel and made it what it is today. Warm and friendly is what it’s all about and they have achieved this. Most Fridays there is a tribute act on and if you like a quiz Monday nights are great 17 although a little music heavy, but it’s for charity and a bit of a laugh. A great place to visit, even if it’s for a quick pint.
