The dental insurance policy

Personally for me the insurance policy I bought from Barmenia to cover extra dental expenses was a total waste of money. Not only did Barmenia requested all possible and impossible documents but after months of consideration refused to cover the costs associated with implants. What a shame! Would never recommend this company to anyone!

In order to be able to guarantee the insurance cover in the supplementary insurance in the long term, questions about current or recommended treatments are asked when the contract is concluded. In addition, Barmenia is obliged to check the information provided again in certain cases in the first period after the start of the contract or after the first submission of invoices.

Long process but happy

I was very much worried by seeing so much negative reviews here. But I was already taken glasses insurance by then. After submitting my first invoice by the app, no progress till one week. But just after one week it's processing. I was in hope and waited two more weeks. By the end of three weeks I saw the status is finished. And just after one day, the money is already in account! The told me it will take approximately 3-4 weeks and they kept their word. So nothing to complain about.

Although their processing takes abit…

Although their processing takes abit long and it's cumbersome to follow up i would choose them again and again because they are affordable.

Logging in to account is always a problem

After purchasing the dental insurance, it takes too long to set up the actual account to get reimbursed. Also, it seems that I always have a problem logging into my account when I need to upload an invoice to get reimbursement. I wish they would make it easier to log in.

Bike Injurence dissaster.

I have a bike injurence with full service by Barmenia. Sadly, my bike got stolen almost month ago. From that time I send almost 10 emails to Barmenia, (never got an written answer) and I have 5 phone calls. Everythine I spoke with another person, seems like my case was taken over by 5 people…. thats a mess, I had a bills for everything, police protokoll etc. Today I got information that I will get money back for my bike, nothing about accessories which were mounted and which should be covered as well ( almost 600 euro).

Edit:
Your phone calls are bringing not much, I spoke with different people who gave me different answers. I sent couple of emails and now I sent letter. Waiting for logic feedback.

Edit:
Finally I received completed transfer. So for those who are in the same situation - its worth to fight till the end.

Exelent

Exelent! While I was on vacation in Greece, I had a bad accident and broke my ankle( 2 bones) . They answered very fast , went to a private clinic and got treated , the next day flew back home and send then all the paper work and got almost all my spending money refund , the only thing was not refunded was the taxis. I don’t care if is automatically renew , as it says on its policy and for that little money , is definitely worth it. I highly recommend this insurance

Sagen zuerst zu, und lassen einen dann hängen

Called them to ask whether or not an incident is covered. They confirmed, that everything is covered, so I had the item repaired at a workshop to get a receipt (otherwise I would have repaired it myself). When I sent the receipt, all the sudden they changed their mind and are no longer willing to reimburse the expense.

Cannot recommend. DON'T CHOSE THIS INSURANCE, GET ANOTHER ONE THAT'S HONEST AND RELIABLE.

Update: Hatte mich auf den Kommentar hin bei Barmenia gemeldet. Die Email wurde bis jetzt aber einfach ignoriert. Es scheint kein ernsthaftes Interesse zu geben, wirklich etwas zu klären. Vielleicht nur Marketing um hier den Eindruck zu erwecken es gäbe Kundenservice?

Sollte doch noch etwas passieren, werde ich die Bewertung überarbeiten.

Update: ein Monat vergangen, nie etwas von Barmenia gehört. Toller Service. Finger davon lassen!

Constantly avoiding to cover insured costs

Last year we got an insurance for our young and healthy dog. After a few weeks she had a small accident which required a minor surgery followed by a few sessions of physical therapy.
"Unfortunately" we have already been to the therapist before because of a few digestive issues. Despite of many explanation attempts in several calls and e-mails over the last 6 months, Barmenia is claiming that the symptoms of the surgery have already been treated before taking out the insurance. They seem to be trying to avoid costs at any price - the time they spent on all the communication was probably already more expensive than just covering the expenses and keeping a happy customer.

Can't recommend this insurance to anyone. It's not cheap and causes a lot of hassle if you want to make a claim.

No Real Insurance

Having a animal health insurance and paying it as usual. Lately, my dog had to go to the vet more often (common complaints with female dogs) and therefore I wanted to upgrade the insurance. Due to the sent vet reports, they have blocked the upgrade. Why then offer the insurances? Apparently only for profit horniness. In my opinion it’s fraud

Total ignoration of calls, emails

Phone call get unresponded during four business/non working days. Emails get ignored. Does anybody works in Barmenia besides sales?

Stay away from this company

Stay away from this company! They never answer phones, emails, or social media accounts.
I have Zahnzusatzversicherung Mehr 100, i pay 22.5 euros monthly, but there is no customer service and no payment at all! it looks like scam.

Roll a dice to know if you will be covered

Given they stopped all communication once enough documents for dental coverage were provided (in 3 month span and several relaunch), I concluded this:
- yes the website is functional and easy to use, they do have a good marketing
- but the core business which is what you really want (the coverage when you need it) really looks like rolling a dice, at least I didnt got any in my case
- Makes me think of those insurance companies who just cover barely enough customers for not looking like a total scam, and ignore others which are less of legal threat (like expats or else), for just cashing-in the monthly fee, at least it was my feeling of the experience there

Worst!! They don't do what they say , Not helpful at all.

I was getting call everday from them to take their insurance and they were telling me that I'll get money back from my krakenkasse more than I expect . But till this date guess how much I got back "ZERO" "NULL" .
They don't do what they advertise.
Funny thing is they still deduct 2 euro every month. They ask about date of experience but it was since the beigning like that ,so almost 5 year till now. Can't select the date from 2018.

cannot get hold of them ever

cannot get hold of them ever, only ever sent one mail with my details, unable to access my policy that I pay for when I need a copy for a visa. What is the point of paying this company, would not recommend

No wonder they have 50% 1 star reviews

Once again: I had my teeth done in 2024, your insurance started in 2023, in August. I paid a little more for the first 2 months than your Frau Emilija promised me, but it was 66e. And then in October and November you took 95 euros from my account because you changed my insurance without my consent. After many requests, your Frau Emilija sent me a document to sign that only gives me back what I bought at first - but at higher price!! Nobody ever returned the money to me or apologized. On all your papers (that you keep sending me) it says that I have rights to 3,000 euros in the second calendar year, that is 2024, and you paid me 1,500 euros. Then I canceled your insurance and you deceived me for the third time, saying that I have to pay you by November 1st, basing that on the changing YOU MADE WITHOUT MY CONSENT. Are you above the law?

More or less, scam
After the first my report here, they asked to contact them, and never answered
Then they paid something that their partner, another scammers, Consurio, didn't promise
Now they're advising me to send a complaint to them, like they have no clue how is their partner selling their insurance.
Anyway, choose different insurance, this one is very expensive and will deceive you. Awful customer service too

Extremally long refund

Company takes money without any problems, but we are waiting for refund almost 6 weeks already! And its only 30 euro! I now have a doubts to continue with this company, cant imagine how long we will wait if do really complex and expensive tooth procedures... you all the time need to pay in advance and then wait 2 months without money.

the worst insurance ever. I waited one month to get today a letter from them because they don´t trust people, and now i have to fill out 1000 documents for them. No one is replying to the emails... and they also want a letter from the aok. It is ridiculous. i will close my contract asap.

Pros: Good quality, secure insurance; Cons: responds with delays, a lot of paperwork

15.04.2021: UPDATE:
In the end all my problems were fixed by Barmenia so I am now editing my review. It took a lot of time and a lot of hassle but everything is fine and I am very happy now that everything is settled.

I made the insurance in 2017, having no health issues except Glaucoma. In 2018 I had again some symptoms and complains and my friends told me to go to doctors. I went to some doctors and I got some diagnosis for a disease.
Edit: forgot to mention that I had a Romanian insurance before, I had some symptoms, I thought it's not serious and in Romania the doctors laughed in my face and didn't put any diagnostic so my confidence in doctors was zero and for years whenever I had some symptoms I avoided them.

Since then I had only issues with Barmenia. They asked me all the time for papers showing how and since when I have this diagnostic, papers from my previous insurance company, etc. They even blocked my insurance for 2 months because when I made the contract, not knowing/speaking German, their own guys wrote "previous insurance company: AOK" which was not true but they assured me this is the procedure when they make contracts (these guys were freelancers for Barmenia). Then Barmenia accused me of cheating. In the end they clarified internally, unblocked my insurance and they didn't even apologize!
Now they are keep delaying payments (paying 3-4 weeks after sending the invoices), not answering my treatment plan quotations (details below), even refusing to pay some medical services which are forced to be paid by insurance through German law.

Edit: one of my friends has the same diagnostic as mine and she has the same procedures which Barmenia rejected paid 100% by AOK. Another friend has a private insurance and the same items from my surgery invoice is paid for her!

Don't make this insurance with Barmenia! I don't recommend! I am paying 700 Euro per month just for 2 bed room, chefarzt and a bottle of extra juice when in hospital.
Edit: they recently increased the premium with the reason "risk". It means you are healthy and pay for 20 years for example and suddenly got sick, you get a "risk". Then why do we pay all this money for if whenever we get sick you increase the price? I am paying only for Glaucoma 140 Euros per month, risk, and my expenses per year are less than half of this amount!

In addition only dentist and some alternative therapy is included in the premium and it's not worth it!
Don't do it!

Edit: I have other health problems for which I have to suffer! I am simply afraid to go to the doctors because I am scared Barmenia will not pay or will delay my payments! So this is life with this insurance company...stay home and suffer! I just want to get well with my existing diagnostic and get over it!

28.09.2020: letter sent with the approval request for a 2nd surgery -> no answer yet

2019: letter sent with a request for medical procedure; they asked for photo documentation; photo documentation sent in March 2020; in Summer 2020 I asked again, they demanded again photo documentation -> no answer yet

December 2020: I am going through logopedia therapy for my speech issues. Since Corona the price per session increased from 64.99 to 78 Euros; Barmenia refuses to pay the price difference claiming some agreement -> I have to pay 130 Euros which they refuse + 20% which is not covered through premium contract

Glaucoma: since the diagnostic which I got before my Barmenia insurance I am taking Monopost medicine. Everything goes well with this medicine so I am not trying something else since there might be the risk of having bad results which can result in eye sight loss. Barmenia pays only 80% of the medicine because "it's not generic". Therefore now I am getting this medicine from Romania for free because in Germany I have to pay from my own pocket because Barmenia refuses to cover 100%.

2020 June: I had a surgery in Muenchen. I got an invoice from Rotkreutzklinikum Hospital, value of ~6400 Euro. Barmenia paid only ~2400 Euro saying some GoA items are not matching some nomenclature or standards. The very same items are paid for AOK and for other health insurances (I mentioned above my friends). Isn't the law and medical standards applicable for all insurance companies in Germany?
