Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)

EFTPS is a free service from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. All federal taxes can be paid using EFTPS. You can make payments via the EFTPS website, a voice response system, or special channels designed for tax professionals, payroll services, and financial institutions.

Taxpayer identification number (TIN) online matching

TIN matching is part of a suite of Internet based pre-filing e-services that allows “authorized payers” the opportunity to match 1099 payee information against IRS records prior to filing information returns.

Technical Services Operation (TSO)

Call 866-455-7438 (toll-free) or 304-579-4827 (TDD). TSO is available to payers, transmitters, and employers. When you call you will be provided guidance on the technical aspects for electronic filing through the Filing Information Return Electronically (FIRE) System, general information on information return reporting, and referrals for self-help resources and tax law topics on IRS.gov.

Understanding your IRS notice or letter

IRS provides the contact phone number on the notice or letter. Typically, you only need to contact IRS if you don’t agree with the information, if we requested additional information, or if you have a balance due. You can also write to IRS at the address in the notice or letter. If you write, allow at least 30 days for IRS response.

Requests for forms, instructions, publications and public use documents

You can order the tax forms, instructions, and publications you need to complete your filing requirements. The IRS will process your order and ship it by U.S. mail when the products become available.

Requests for addresses to mail returns, payments, and/or correspondence

To determine where to file your return, identify the form number for which you need the information and follow the numerical or alpha-numerical links provided to determine your specific where to file information.

Apply online for a payment plan

Your specific tax situation will determine which payment plan options are available to you. Payment options include full payment or a long-term payment plan (installment agreement, paying monthly).
