Research Project: Sources of FHB Resistance in Hard Winter Wheat

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-180-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2024
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
The primary objective is the transfer of alleles for FHB resistance from Aegilops tauschii into common wheat. In the process, we will confirm the efficacy of Ae. tauschii-derived resistance in a hexaploid background, map resistance, develop breeder-frendly markers and initiate deployment into elite backgrounds.

Approach:
Low pass sequencing will be used to generate genotype data and, in combination with phenotype data on percent symptomatic spikelets, FHB and DON, will be used to identify introgressed regions associated with resistance. Conventional backcrossing will be used to initiate transfer of resistance to elite materials.
