Nevada Native Plant Guide. p. 7-13. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This guide instructs those individuals interested in collecting and processing wildland seeds. Instructions are given on seed collecting, cleaning and threshing and the importance of properly doing these tasks. This includes collecting atleast twice as many seeds as are needed, collecting seeds at the correct phenological stage, using paper or cloth bags and not plastic bags to place collected seeds in, and allowing the seeds to dry in a cool, dry area indoors so that the seed can reach moisture equilibrium. Information is also given on seed biology as it relates to seed germination, seed germination procedures, and various methods to deal with seed dormancy such as cool moist prechilling and gibberellic enrichment. |
