Histoire
In the 1960s, the world’s attention was focused on a nail-biting race against time: the international campaign to save a dozen ancient Egyptian temples from drowning in the floodwaters of the gigantic new Aswan High Dam. But the coverage of this unprecedented rescue effort completely overlooked the daring French archaeologist who made it all happen. Without the intervention of Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt, the temples—including the Temple of Dendur, now at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art—would currently be at the bottom of a vast reservoir.

The success of the saving Abul Simbel. Reading about Jacquie Kennedy's role was new knowledge for me.

Histoire
Philippa Gregory's first story in the best-selling Wideacre trilogy. A compelling tale of passion and intrigue set in the 18th century. From the author of The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover. Wideacre Hall, set in the heart of the English countryside, is the ancestral home that Beatrice Lacey loves. But as a woman of the 18th century, she has no right of inheritance. Corrupted by a world that mistreats women, she sets out to corrupt others.

Quite a story

This is not a typical style book for Philipa Gregory but held my interest. The protagonist is a evil person. Gregory gives the reader an amazing character and personality study of a mentally unbalanced person. One keeps reading hoping Beatrice's character may change. The ending of the book surprised me. I will probably read the other 2 books at a late time.

It was a love so strong, a king renounced his kingdom - all for that woman. Or was she just an escape route for a monarch who never wanted to rule? Best-selling author Wendy Holden takes an intimate look at one of the most notorious scandals of the 20th century.

The book shows the perspective of Wallis Simpson and not what how British history portrays her. In history discussions of Wallis describe more as a villain than a women who truly loved David. No one ever mentions her disastrous first marriage, or that her second marriage was relatively a happy one. Such an interesting view on Elizabeth the Queen Mother. I enjoyed listening to this book.
