Histoire
You knew a teenager like Charlie Crabtree. A dark imagination, a sinister smile - always on the outside of the group. Some part of you suspected he might be capable of doing something awful. Twenty-five years ago, Crabtree did just that, committing a murder so shocking that it's attracted that strange kind of infamy that only exists on the darkest corners of the internet - and inspired more than one copycat.

These shadows are worth exploring
Évalué le: 2023-01-31
Firstly, the narrators are very solid and a pleasure to listen two. It worked very well having two and the points of view were well distinguished.
North is a very good writer and fashioned the story masterfully. Suspense was built nicely and the past and the present wove together nicely. Satisfying ending.

Histoire
Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on.

RH and RG make a great team and have produced another winner.
Évalué le: 2022-12-11
The Cormorant Strike series keeps getting better. Troubled Blood has lots of meat to sink into and a very satisfying ending. Strike and Robin are put through the wringer yet again and their brooding relationship adds a nice side story as usual. The quality of the writing is excellent RG does not rest on her success but continues to perfect the craft.
Robert Glenister is one of my favourite narrators and makes all the characters come alive distinctly.

Histoire
Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

Good and Scary.

This is a solid suspense book that is too close to possible for comfort. What really did it form me is the quality of the writing. With vivid metaphors and crisp dialogue. The narration was excellent.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Ingenious. Twisting. Unexpected.

I wasn’t expecting this book to be better than The Martian but it is. There are many similarities but the scope of this book is much bigger. I’m not sure how Andy Weir comes up with so many plot points but it keeps you guessing and intrigued. It had a very interesting ending as well. He just doesn’t relent.
The narration was excellently done by Ray Porter and it had some interesting embellishments to make it more real. He captured the characters very well and showed very good range.
The story was a very interesting one packed with science and possible science. Great attention to detail.

A feast of a book
Évalué le: 2021-06-15
The Terror by Dan Simmons is an epic story of intrepid arctic sailors looking for the north west passage. The characterizations are rich and vivid. The situations varied and tense even when locked in ice. The protagonists are solid and worth rooting for. The antagonists human or not are evil and frustrate the good mightily.
Tom Sellwood’s performance is excellent and he handles the variety of characters and languages very impressively. He captures your attention and keeps it. Looking forward to hearing him again.
There is a mix of the natural and supernatural in the story. I’m not always a fan of the latter but this book handles it nicely tying it into the myths of the north.
This was a very enjoyable listen and I highly recommend it.

Both narrators were very good and kept the things going in a convincing.l way. The story was not bad but seemed to lack a climax. I kept expecting resolution with the antagonist but it never happened. Disappointed in the end.
