In 1985, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake were spotted shoplifting. Ng escaped, but Lake's capture led police to a concrete bunker in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where they discovered the grisly evidence of an orgy of sex crimes, torture, and murder that claimed at least 16 victims. Lake committed suicide: Ng fled to Canada, where he was tracked down and extradited to California. This 14-year, $10 million legal case was the costliest and longest criminal prosecution in California history.

Great book, terrible narrator

Well written with a few unknowns thrown in. I'm glad this was a 'free for members' purchase though as had I had to use a credit, I'd have had requested a refund and purchased the hard copy. The narration was so bad, that if I see the name again on a future purchase, I'll refrain.

Comforting

I purchased this book not long after my 29 year old daughter committed suicide. I needed something to believe in as her death was completely unexpected, violent in nature and left me broken, as one would imagine after a death such as suicide. This book left me feeling hopeful. Hopeful that she's not truly gone, she will come see me when and if I'm ready and vice versa. It gives me piece of mind knowing that though she may have felt she had no choice but to leave, and on her own terms, she is at peace. I am currently listening to it for the third time and it is as comforting as the first.

Kept me enthralled

This was a good listen. A bit spooky in all the right places. I was driving home the other day in thick fog and the light changed from dusk to super bright as I came over a hill. Right at that moment a vampire was attacking in the book. Kid you not, it made me jump!
