This Audible Exclusive performance features a unique introduction written and narrated by Miriam Margolyes. Recognised as one of Dickens' most accomplished titles, Bleak House has impressed critics and audiences alike since it was first published in 1852. The novel boasts one of the most intelligent and engaging plots in all of English literature and is sure to engage the listener's imagination as it transports us back in time to the seedy, grimy and hazardous streets of Victorian London.

Monumental
Évalué le: 2020-07-01
A monumental story. The story is tied together well. The intensity continues throughout. The overall true basic lesson being taught is that the legal system, lawyers, and all their business paraphernalia are false, and have nothing to do with laws and crime, and everything to do with “making money” and the accumulation of “power”. The story is a true treatise on the system that leads to, and becomes, our governance as well.

Richard Burton and Ralph Richardson join together in this unqiue musical production of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". The superb delivery of both these actors is augmented by an original soundtrack composed by David Moore.

Delightful combination of narrative and music.
Évalué le: 2019-03-11
The reading of this epic poem was entertaining, more so due to the delightful poetry/music combination.
The poem, itself, is a great tale, and would have been much shortened by a direct reading, but the combination, which lengthened the reading, added immensely to the entertainment.
Richard Burton is a great orator, and, in itself would make this a great reading, but the addition of the background adds to his oration.

Homo Deus explores the projects, dreams, and nightmares that will shape the 21st century - from overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This is Homo Deus.

Scary, but knowledge is power!
Évalué le: 2019-01-04
Homo Deus gives us a look at our possible (provable?) future and all the arguments for these possibilities.
The arguments are well constructed. The results of the arguments are believable, and this leads to the “scary” part.
The future, according to Yuval, almost makes the fear around “Global Warming” seem trivial.
This is a book that gives you hours of thoughtful entertainment. I do expect the thoughtful part will continue long after it is finished.

Rick Mercer can always be relied on to provoke a strong reaction - but what he said one fall day in 2017 truly shocked Canada. In a rant posted on social media, the great Canadian satirist announced loud and clear that the 15th season of the Rick Mercer Report - the nation's best-watched and best-loved comedy show - would be the last. This volume brings together never-before-published rants from the last five seasons of the show, plus a selection of the very best rants from earlier years.

A newer, truly Canadian satirist.

Rick reminds me of Stephen Leacock- a writer, who could take any Canadian situation from real life, and make you laugh at the incongruity of the situation.
They both make fun of us, in a nice way. They try to engage us, and in so doing so, possibly turn our thinking around and make us better Canadians.
This was a truly entertaining read, and I will not hesitate to recommend it to everyone.
