Struggling to the end
Évalué le: 2021-08-06
I feel the same as the many reviews I read... at the exception of the chapters on her devastating loss of her son, I just didn't like this book. The 3 stars are out of respect for her tragedy losing her son and the depth of her grief, which she explains very well, it's gut wrenching and pretty hard to keep a dry eye listening to it. I can relate completely since I have been through a similar experience with my first child (not the same condition).
Apart from these chapters, she comes across as a shallow spoil brat at times. I found her analogy to choose Holt Renfrew versus Value Village insulting especially in the context she introduced it (don't want to give too much details so I don't ruin her stories). The fact that she refers to her friend, then boyfriend then husband as "Hot Ronnie" throughout the book drove me nuts, especially in the chapter describing the death of her son. That she calls him "Hot Ronnie" at the beginning when she first met him, okay, but not to the end!
Then there is the religion... I am a spiritual person but not religious so hearing in almost every paragraph her devotion to God was, in my opinion, a bit much.
Then she refers a lot to Rachel Hollis, that "save her marriage", well their very expensive marriage weekend retreat didn't work on them since she and her husband divorced in 2020.
Anyway, I have a lot more to say but will leave it at that.

Histoire
Like many others on the autism spectrum, 20-something stand-up comic Michael McCreary has been told by more than a few well-meaning folks that he doesn’t “look” autistic. But, as he’s quick to point out in this memoir, autism “looks” different for just about everyone with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Too religious for my taste
Évalué le: 2020-07-22
The content would be good if I was not distracted and annoyed by the word "GOD" every single sentence. Although I am not a religious person I consider myself spiritual. This book felt like a Bible study. Very disappointed but maybe I should have read more reviews on it. That being said, I enjoy the author on YouTube interviews when he does not refer to GOD every two seconds.

Brain over Binge provides both a gripping personal account and an informative scientific perspective on bulimia and binge eating disorder. The author, Kathryn Hansen, candidly shares her experience as a bulimic and her alternative approach to recovery. Brain over Binge is different from other eating disorder books which typically present binge eating and purging as symptoms of complex emotional and psychological problems.

I liked to learn about the author own experience and the fact that she is completely free of binging with a simple solution. I am wondering how many readers have been successful to train their "animal brain" after reading this book?
However, I found her book too critical of conventional therapies. I understand it didn't work for her and she didn't have underlying problems but a lot of us do. I found the book a bit repetitive.
I still recommend this book for anyone who has been dealing with binge eating for many years.

Okay but not great
Évalué le: 2019-12-21
I like the first few chapters then I found it repetitive. I enjoyed the stories. I struggled to finish it because I felt I was listening to the same advises over and again. If you like the Bootcamp style, then you'll enjoy it more, not my cup of tea.

The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse is the most comprehensive and helpful audiobook on the topic of covert narcissism. This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused.

Is having 'somebody to love' the most important thing in your life? Do you constantly believe that with 'the right man' you would no longer feel depressed or lonely? Are you bored with 'nice guys' who are open, honest, and dependable? If being in love means being in pain, this book was written for you. Therapist Robin Norwood describes loving too much as a pattern of thoughts and behavior, which certain women develop as a response to problems from childhood.
