Story
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

An Audible & Story That Deserves Five Stars
Reviewed: 2023-11-05
Yellowface wasn't a book that I was expecting to read this year, but I saw it on Audible and wanted to give it a try. This audiobook hits hard! Not only does Helen Laser play an excellent narrator, R. F Kuang's book, Yellowface, is a brilliant look into envy, deception, and guilt while also pulling up the carpet of the publishing industry, revealing all the ugly parts that aren't brought into the spotlight.

Story
More than half a century ago, the naturalist Farley Mowat accepted an assignment to investigate why wolves were killing Arctic caribou. Mowat’s account of the summer he lived in the frozen tundra alone – studying the wolf population and developing a deep affection for these wild creatures (who were no threat to caribou or man) – is today celebrated as a classic of nature writing, at once a tale of remarkable adventure and an indelible record of the myths and magic of wolves.
