I loved the story and detailed Jemisin’s world is. I found the narrator’s voice and accent to be grating to my ear. Just a personal reaction, I’m afraid, but strong enough that I would like to listen to the story read by someone else.

Story
David Strorm's father doesn't approve of Angus Morton's unusually large horses, calling them blasphemies against nature. Little does he realise that his own son, his niece Rosalind and their friends have their own secret aberration which would label them as mutants. But as David and Rosalind grow older it becomes more difficult to conceal their differences from the village elders. Soon they face a choice: wait for eventual discovery or flee to the terrifying and mutable Badland.

The Crysalids is apt for our times. It is creepy and horribly feasible. It is well told and ends hopefully, yet with an ominous underplot that begged for a sequel that never came…. Loved it.

Lyra is rushing to the cold, far North, where witch clans and armored bears rule. North, where the Gobblers take the children they steal—including her friend Roger. North, where her fearsome uncle Asriel is trying to build a bridge to a parallel world. Can one small girl make a difference in such great and terrible endeavors? This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want. But what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other.

Story
The first book in a brand-new series, The Last Kingdom is set in England during the reign of King Alfred. Uhtred is an English boy, born into the aristocracy of ninth-century Northumbria. Orphaned at 10, he is captured and adopted by a Dane and taught the Viking ways. Yet Uhtred's fate is indissolubly bound up with Alfred, King of Wessex, who rules over the only English kingdom to survive the Danish assault. The struggle between the English and the Danes and the strife between christianity and paganism is the background to Uhtred's growing up.

Story
The Two Towers is the second volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic saga, The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship has been forced to split up. Frodo and Sam must continue alone towards Mount Doom, where the One Ring must be destroyed. Meanwhile, at Helm’s Deep and Isengard, the first great battles of the War of the Ring take shape. In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien’s great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe - hobbits, elves, and wizards - spring to life. Rob Inglis’ narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this beloved and often read story. The narrator is spot on and I think the film copied his orc voices, one in particular when they’ve got Frodo in Shelob’s cave. Although I know the story extremely well it was a fresh and memorable way to occupy long hours of driving.

Story
This first novel in The Deptford Trilogy introduces Ramsay, a man who returns from World War I decorated with the Victoria Cross but who is destined to be caught in a no man's land where memory, history, and myth collide. As we hear Ramsey tell his story, we begin to realize that, from childhood, he has influenced those around him in a perhaps mystical, perhaps pernicious way.

Interesting narration of a timeless Canadian classic
Reviewed: 2018-04-13
The story speaks for itself and is as fascinating now as when it was first published . The performance , notably the narrators voice and accent, was jarring to me at first. I eventually accepted it, but it changed and diminished Dunstan Ramsay’s character . Never the less, a very enjoyable rendition.
