Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Story
The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

I won't lie, I typically don't enjoy books like this but the first book had me hooked and I read the entire series one after the other. I love the story line. I found myself, at times, to feel that the logic of the time travel was flawed in the book but then I remembered it isn't real to begin with lol. I really appreciate the authors style of writing and I often laughed out loud at the little bits of humor. I am very impressed with how much I enjoyed the series (all which I will give 5 stars but only leave the written review here) :)

Many children have grown up in the shadow of Louisiana's Greenmount State Penitentiary. Most of them - sons and daughters of corrections officers and staff - left the place as soon as they could. Yet Ginny Polk chose to come back to work as a prison cook. She knows the harsh reality of life within those walls - the cries of men being beaten, the lines of shuffling inmates chained together. Yet she has never seen them as monsters, not even the ones sentenced to execution.

Another great book by Donna Everhart. It kept me intrigued and I empathized with the main character and her morals and was a bit sad when she went against that but I do appreciate why. Ending left me sad but had me asking a lot of questions of what happened in the space unwritten which was both annoying but also allowed my imagination to make it up myself.

In 1969 Dixie Dupree is 11 years old and already an expert liar. Sometimes the lies are for her mama Evie's sake - to explain away a bruise brought on by her quick-as-lightning temper. And sometimes the lies are to spite Evie, who longs to leave her unhappy marriage in Perry County, Alabama, and return to her beloved New Hampshire. But for Dixie and her brother, Alabama is home, a place of pine-scented breezes and hot, languid afternoons.

I read the one review this book has which was a 2.5 star saying it was slow and not good and I don't understand what book they read because it certainly wasn't this one. They also left the exact comment on another one of the authors books.
I absolutely loved this book. I listened to it every chance I got and finished it quickly. The characters are normal people who have had bitter struggles in life. I appreciated the insight it gave me from a victims perspective and it absolutely enraged me how the medical staff treated the Dixie and I pray this is not the norm for victims. I was sad when the book was over and I quickly downloaded the rest of the authors books.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Couldn't put it down

This is the first non WW2 book I have read since I was a child. Normally I read books that involve human rights type issues but I decided to try this one out and, to be honest I figured I would end up stopping it and returning it. I am so happy that wasn't the case. I couldn't stop listening to this book!! The plot line, the stories, the scenes....it put me in the book and had me playing it out as a movie in my head. Thank you for writing this book. You have made me appreciate the story in a style of writing that typically don't read but, thanks to you, I will be broadening my horizons and will be enjoying more stories that are different from my norm. Thank you!
