Story
When the Burgess family move into their "forever" home, it seems like they are set for many happy years together at their new address. Steph and Grant, along with their children, Charlie and Amelia, settle into their new surroundings quickly. But then they receive an unexpected visit from a couple who claim to have lived in the house before. They wish to come in and have a look around for old time's sake. Seeming pleasant and plausible, Steph invites them in. And that's when things begin to change.

male narrator is terrible
Reviewed: 2024-10-22
The story is pretty good. And the female narrator does a decent job but the male narrator is absolutely terrible. if you're easily put off by the narrator, I highly recommend you avoid the book

Story
Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring wardrobes, shattered Brooka glassware, and vandalized Liripip sofa beds—clearly someone, or something, is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five young employees volunteer for a long dusk-till-dawn shift and encounter horrors that defy imagination.

I can't tell if it was the narration or if the story was lacking heart and substance (or maybe both).

Story
Audie Award, Multi-Voiced Performance, 2016. The year is 2575, and two rival mega-corporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra - who are barely even talking to each other - are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

it was good... near the end
Reviewed: 2019-08-19
I attempted to listen to this book at least 3 times this past year. finally on this fourth attempt I succeeded. The problem is the formatting of the book (timestamps, lettered, etc), and the censoring of curse words (why was every second word a curse word. I'm totally ok with cursing but this was excessive) kept distracting me from what was going on in the story.
In the end the story was actually good. But too bad it took 8 hours for me to realize it

Although the author succeeded in making me feel so miserable and disturbed, I just couldn't stop listening.
People complain about the ending, but I feel like it suits the rest of the story pretty well, leaving you feeling horrified and hating the whole situation that the characters had to go through.
Overall, great job. Will definitely read more of her books

Story
The thrilling conclusion to The Extinction Files is finally here! In 2003, the first human genome was sequenced. But the secrets it held were never revealed. The truth was discovered 30 years ago, almost by accident. Dr. Paul Kraus had spent his entire career searching for what he called humanity's lost tribes - human ancestors who had gone extinct. When Kraus compared the DNA samples of the lost tribes with our own, he found a pattern of changes: a code. At the time, the technology didn't exist to unravel what it meant. Kraus hid his work and disappeared.

Story
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Story
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.
