If you are looking for a novel with lewd writing and over sexualized story line, this maybe for you. Otherwise, just keep moving. Even free it was a waste.

I preordered this book and waited patiently for its release. It was the best of the series so far and I hope there will be more in the series. The author creates a perfect combination of knuckle dragging, door kicking seals with a touch of humanity to make an amazing story. The narrator voices each character being life to all the characters. Love the story.

A story that starts out well with characters that struggle with morality questions. Then it sinks into a slow moving story, with little thought or plot. The characters aren’t built up leaving the listener with no connection to them or a care of what happens to them. The narrator makes an effort to keep it interesting by changing his voice for the different characters, but is otherwise flat. Even free this one will cost you time. Find something better to listen to.

A quick trip back to land of the Demon Cycle that just wets the pallet for more. Wonderfully written, excellently narrated. If you like the original books you will love this small trip back.

For most of the book you are left to wonder why most of the event are happening and by the time you find out who the characters are, what side they are on and their motivations, you may not actually care anymore. The narration was the saving grace of this audiobook.

I disliked the original book. The narrator has smoothed his voice into the part. This story is the background between Mary and our Crowley. If you listened to the main book you know most of the story, but this fills in some gaps. Being written as a prequel the author’s writing style has gotten better as well. It almost give me hope to want to listen to the second book. This was good on its own.

Cold as Hell Part 2 cover art

I almost gave up on this book in the first couple of minutes. As much as I appreciated the rough cowboy sounding narrator it made it hard to listen to at times. The character came out feeling flat and left me not really caring what happened to any of them. When one of the characters died it just reinforced the feeling that they aren’t worrying connecting with. The book felt like it was trying to introduce all the main characters in the first book to lead into the second, but it felt so forced that the second book lacks any appeal to me at this point.

I came across this book after watching Rogue Heroes on TV. It fills in a lot of back ground information that the show wasn’t able to address. The insanity of the SAS was captured well on the screen, but it is unbelievable how true the events depicted actually were. A good historical listen.

I’ve seen the movie and enjoyed it. The book puts a lot of the fine nuances and subtleties into light that the movie wasn’t able to portray. An excellent listen.

The story started off very quickly, to the point that the reader is disoriented as to what was actually going on. The premise of the book had a lot of potential, but was lost in slow drawn out sections, overly authentic attempt at use of an African dialect and at times the accent of the narrator. The motivation of the main character wasn’t even revealed until after chapter 20.
With that said the narrators attempts to make the reading and accents sound of an Africa descent is one of the saving graces of the book. Her voice was soothing enough to put me to sleep but the book didn’t hold my interest to keep me awake. By the time I reached the end of the first half of the book I was ready for it to be over. Although the second half was better it didn’t make up for the lagging of the first half. Where I would normally continue listening to a book because I enjoy it and it provides a story in the background, I preferred the sound of silence than trying to get back into this book to finish it.
It was free. Even then it is time I won’t get back for a story that I won’t want to remember or recommend.
