Give us more, more characters to round out the major personalities, more action to illustrate the moral choices. The plot and performance were to good to be so brief.

It should be a classic!

I loved it years ago. Maybe 30 years ago. Listening now, the writing style is a bit simplistic and the narration compounds that. However, it’s a great plot, with compelling characters and a wonderful old airplane.
Ironically, it would be great teen fiction, except for a few sexual interludes that are a bit explicit for kids.
But I am old enough to have read it when it was new.

The accent! The humour! The plot is a bonus!
Reviewed: 2022-04-30
I’m thrilled there are more in the series. I love local voices in audiobooks: Australian, Irish, American South, but this Scottish brogue was the best. The plot and characters were well up to standard. I wouldn’t listen just for the accent!

I did like the seer but I think Walt should stay out of Mexico. Please.

Not for snobs
Reviewed: 2018-09-22
The narrator is over the top; picture a hedonistic Batman, and yet, I kept listening. Great reader, lots of NYC atmosphere, and a very appealing protagonist. The plot is a piecing together of overblown characters and action adventure, but how many sophisticated plots can we expect from such a prolific author? He does this stuff very well.
I think the Dakota May have more tenants fictional than real.

Five stars because I immediately downloaded the sequel and I’m waiting for number three from this author.
As a Canadian, I identified with the wilderness and the drought and how it affects the locals. Solid characters and suspense to the end. And then the accent, one of the best advantages of listening rather than reading
#Audible1
