Story
From the moment Lucy met her husband's mother, Diana, she was kept at arm's length. Diana was exquisitely polite and properly friendly, but Lucy knew she was not what Diana envisioned. That was five years ago. Now, Diana is dead, a suicide note found near her body. Diana claims she no longer wanted to live because of a battle with cancer. But the autopsy finds no cancer. The autopsy does find traces of poison and evidence of suffocation.

What happened Alafair?? I'm so sad. This is the worst piece of writing I have ever come across and that from my all time favorite author. And feminism? Please don't tell me you've jumped on that bandwagon now too? What a sad day.

Story
Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Terrible reading!
Reviewed: 2018-11-29
there are so many things wrong with this audiobook. First the reader is terrible! Recording itself repeats a few times, there's a lot of obvious inserted words after the fact, and Henrietta abruptly stops after each sentence and takes a pause. It makes for a very choppy, unnatural read. Then there's the story itself, the ending is so stumped. It just ends with no follow-through. You've built a relationship with these characters but you're forced to part with them with no idea of where they ended up. I want my money back.

For the first time in all the years I've listened to audiobooks, I found myself skipping ahead. The bulk of the story was excruciating because it is just so unrealistic. No person in real life will allow so many things to be done to them without saying a word.
