POWER SYSTEM: The magic system’s interesting and I really liked the world building! The “Titans” they pilot are diverse and have established strengths and weaknesses.

WORLD: The world’s mysterious with citizens not fully knowing its history. The world’s given to the reader slowly so it never fells like an info dump.

PROTAGONIST: Locke is a pretty generic Isekai protagonist. This means he asks questions that help to learn more about the world and the power system. He usually reacts to cool fantasy stuff with excitement, but he doesn’t really show strong opinions on anything else.

THE SUPPORTING CAST: In the first book you’ll spend most of your time with Locke and three woman of the crew. Each woman has their own personalities and goals… but each one is also really horny for the protagonist. Their culture is much more sexually open so the protagonist finds himself hit on by almost every woman he meets.

SPICY: This book gets VERY Nsfw at parts. But I was pleasantly surprised that the characters discuss consent early on in the book. Its a small detail but it’s nice to see that everyone is having fun and consenting. Locke is also able to leave whenever he wants, so despite the fact that his co-workers keep hitting on him, I don’t feel like he’s coerced. Once an Nsfw scene starts its typically ends by the start of the next chapter. So they’re easy to skip if you’d like.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I enjoyed the book, but the sheer horniness of it was off putting at times (characters casually talk about the protagonist sexually all the time). The world building was my favourite part. Would recommend to fans of fantasy.

So this book has a bit of a slow start, but picks up past the first quarter.

The protagonist is a pacifist healer and manages to go pretty much the entire book without breaking their oaths as a doctor.

There’s a strong focus on mystery in the first half and romance in the second, but its all feel’s connected. Every story jumps cleanly from one scene to the next.

Additionally the protagonist and the elf king are both well rounded characters with understandable motives.

A nice read with great audio!

Great bad book

I enjoyed this book for the wrong reasons.

Its infuriating to listen to because so much of the mystery is built around characters willfully withholding information from the protagonist and the audience.

Characters are constantly saying things like “I could tell you but I won’t.” Or a reveal is just about to happen and then the phone rings and it’s abandoned for several chapters.

The protagonist is angry at an Ork she can’t find, so she randomly starts attacking Orks in a hope that she’ll find the guy. She dislocates and Orks shoulder when he doesn’t know who she’s talking about, then later that night fights humans and knocks them out gently because she suddenly worries about their well being.

In a period of several days she’s gone from magically inept to an unstoppable force of nature. She’s also the best hacker, a genius, and basically a trust fund baby who last name is known far and wide.

Her biggest flaw is that she’s extremely rude to everyone and acts like a teenager despite being a 22 year old college student. This is never a problem as every other character is either just as mean or gives her what she wants out of a kindness she doesn’t reciprocate.

If you enjoy bad fantasy books, you’ll probably like this one!

Good, but weakest of the trilogy

I really liked this book! But it fells like the weakest of the trilogy.

It has a basically new cast of characters (other than Bane and Zannah). These characters all have their own little story arcs that come together at the end.

(SPOILERS FOR BOOK 2)

After watching the Brotherhood and Hoth get killed off in book 1, then watching almost the entire supporting cast die in book 2, I was tiered of having to learn about a new cast of characters for the 3rd and final book.

It felt like a lot of these characters could have easily been replaced with Rule of two’s secondary cast if they weren’t all killed off so quickly at the end.

If you liked path of destruction you’ll probably like this one. Zhanna is the POV character for most of the book, but you still get a lot of scenes from Bane as well as others to tell a cohesive story.

I loved it! But the first half and the second half feel like completely different books.

Without spoiling anything:

-The first half is extremely focused on Lila the protagonist and how she’s needs to cope with a sudden change in her life. Lila spends much of the chapter’s describing how this change effects her and the people around her. It has a heavy focus on her metal health and coping with a difficult situation.

-The second half however has far less emphasis on Lila’s thoughts and instead focuses on her developing relationship. The last few chapters feel like an entirely different genre and tone then the beginning of the book.

Its all really well done though and I loved how it ended!

Although the book asks that you know a bit about Star Wars and its lore, its very good at explaining things as they come up.

I rarely found myself lost.

This book will take several minutes describing every single item and its stats that the protagonist finds.

While you could skim over these with a physical book, here you have to sit through it whenever they’re done fighting, shopping, completed a quest, or reading enemy stat blocks.

Also as the other reviews might have indicated, the protagonist is a dangerous predator who is not only sadistic, but also cooks and eats several people alive. (Seriously, you might want to research this book before listening, its ALL trigger warnings)

If you’ve ever had a crush before or had questions about the idea of love at first sight, you’ll find something to relate to in this book.

Voice actings great and the story is fun!

Also… Robbie is the best character.
