This is a short book. I think it would be better if I read in book form. I am not into the dramatic voices of the narrator . It is too load and confusing for me.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

I loved listening to this book

I cried near the end. I thought how the author described what Sam’s mother meant to him, was so touching. I found most of the narrative nice to listen too. I liked the little twists that occurred. Some where predictable and some where unexpected, and it made me want to see how this book finished.

I was watching Youtube, and I saw Molly Shannon promoting her book. So I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. It was such a joy to listen to this book. Molly is such a great story teller. I felt her love for her family, her Dad, and her comedy. I respect her more now because I understand where she is coming from. I would definitely recommend this book.

I loved the Carol Burnett show. I remember watching it when I was a child and later on the reruns. It really opened my eyes how much time and effort went into getting this show onto the air. It was well explained and pleasant to listen to. Everything was well covered in the reading of the book. Now, I even have more respect for the show, because I understand how it was put together. Throughout the story you can hear how the author loves her craft and has so much respect for the people she worked with. What a class act!
