Story
As Pen experiences the sharp shock of adulthood, she uncovers the truth about her own family and comes to rely on herself for the first time in her life. A rich and rewarding novel of campus life, of sexual awakening, and ultimately, of the many ways women can become mothers in this world, The Life Cycle of the Common Octopus asks to what extent we need to look back in order to move forward.

Overall I enjoyed the story. The performance was well done. It was an interesting coming of age story and the parallels to the octopus were clear. In some ways I thought the actions of Pen, the protagonist, somewhat naive and the outcomes of her actions with others somewhat too ideal. But really, what is wrong with that?

Captivating Story
Reviewed: 2025-01-21
As you read this book, you start to see how the two stories slowly start to parallel one another. The writing style and the performance were superb. I liked the characters and how they added to the story. I would have given this book a 5 but I didn’t like outcome of baby Theo. I won’t say more as I don’t want to give anything away. I think a sequel murder mystery with these characters would be charming.

A rock is thrown through her window, her car tires are slashed, a chilling message is scrawled on her bathroom mirror.

Was this a haunting or mystery?

The story grabbed my attention immediately although its male narrator struck a discord for me initially. As the story went on, and more characters were introduced it made sense that there was a male narrator and it worked well. I recommend this book.

I normally do not like two timelines going on in a story but this was performed well and clearly. I was able to cheer for the main characters and found myself listening too much throughout the day to see where the story would go next. I was a little let down by the ending though but not enough to not recommend the book. Enjoy!

Story
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Story
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Interesting Story & Well defined characters

The story is well written and grabbed me from the beginning. The characters are believable and you want them to succeed in solving the crimes. I have read all but two books written by this author and enjoyed her stories. Of the ones I’ve read, only one book could have been presented better. It will not deter me from getting the last book, book 3 of this series- Cormac Reilly. I recommend this book series including the prequel.

Story
Genevieve has secrets that no one knows. In Rome she can be whoever she wants to be. Her neighbours aren't nosy; her Italian is passable; the shopkeepers and restaurant owners now see her as a local, and they let her be. It's exactly what she wants. One morning, after getting groceries, she returns to her 500-year-old Trastevere apartment - it's exactly as she left it, not a thing out of place...except for the small box on her kitchen table. A box that definitely wasn't there this morning. A box that is addressed to "Lucy Callahan." A name that she hasn't used in 10 years.

I am not a fan of a narrative story
Reviewed: 2023-12-17
The premise of the story was okay however, the story was too long. Would have been better as a short story. I also did not like the fact that the story unfolded as a narration by the protagonist, Lucy, who was full of angst and making the same mistakes over again. It made Lucy hard to like.

Story
December, and the river is rising. The village of Ledwardine has never been flooded in living memory. Within days it will be an island. There's no electricity. The church is serving as a temporary mortuary for two people who drowned. Only one man feels safer. An aggressively-atheist author has been moved, for his own safety, Rushdie-style, into a secluded house just outside the village. Fundamentalist Christians have hated him for years. Now he's offended the Muslims. Bad move.
